Why 3DPainMap exists.

Traditional documentation captures pain as a number or a note. 3DPainMap captures it as PAINT — Position, Area, Intensity, Nature, and Time — so the symptom experience becomes a structured record that can be compared, taught, and studied. How it works covers the measurement mechanics; this page is why it exists and how we plan to validate it.

Origin

A measurement language for pain, not just a drawing tool.

Pain drawings are rich but hard to standardize. 3DPainMap reframes the drawing as a measurable spatial record on a reviewed 3D body surface, so what a patient reports can be summarized, exported, and followed over time.

How it's built

3DPainMap is built to help clinicians, educators, and researchers — with the patient's report at the center and the clinician in the loop. Metrics are presented as derived symptom-burden measures, claims are tagged honestly as current or roadmap, and nothing here is positioned as diagnosis.

Validation roadmap

Built for validation, not pretending validation is finished.

Scoped next-step research: inter-rater and test-retest reliability of mapped areas, construct validity (convergent and discriminant) and responsiveness against existing body maps and external instruments — BPI severity & interference, PROMIS Pain Interference, IMMPACT outcome domains — alongside the existing CHOIR / MAPP / Michigan Body Map taxonomy reference.
